I. Pre-installation Preparation: Tools + Materials + Safety Inspection
1. Essential Tools
Core tools: Electric drill (with tile drill bit / hammer drill bit; tile drill bit essential for tile walls to prevent cracking), spirit level (or levelling gauge), tape measure, marker pen, screwdrivers (Phillips / flathead), wrench, wall plugs + screws (select based on wall type and mirror weight: plastic wall plugs for tiled walls, metal wall plugs for concrete walls, and ‘hollow wall plugs’ for plasterboard walls).
2. Material Verification
Mirror accessories included: hanging holes, hanging slots, hooks (or backing plate). Check beforehand for completeness (e.g., frameless mirrors may only have 2 hanging holes, while mirror cabinets typically have 4 fixing points).
Additional preparations: For heavier mirrors (over 5kg), use double expansion bolts to prevent detachment. For illuminated mirrors, ensure a power socket is pre-installed (preferably with a waterproof cover plate).
3. Safety Checks (Critical!)
Wall Inspection: For tiled walls, ensure tiles are securely bonded with no hollow spots (drilling into hollow areas risks tile detachment). For plasterboard walls, locate internal studs (offering greater load-bearing capacity); otherwise, use specialised hollow-wall screws.
Pipe/Cable Inspection: Use a ‘wall scanner’ (or mobile phone metal detection function) to check drilling locations for water pipes or electrical wiring (bathroom walls often contain pipes; incorrect drilling may cause leaks or electric shocks).
Mirror Protection: Wrap mirror edges in soft cloth before installation to prevent chipping or breakage during handling.
